Chandrayaan-1 inaugurates 3-D imaging of the moon

Washington, Dec 18 (ANI): An instrument aboard Indian Space Research Organizations (ISROs) Chandrayaan-1 spacecraft has inaugurated 3-D imaging of the moon, revealing new information about the lunar surface.

Known as the Moon Mineralogy Mapper, NASAs guest instrument aboard Chandrayaan-1 has taken a new composite image, which provides new information about the Orientale Basin region of the moon.

The Orientale Basin is located on the moons western limb.

The data for this composite were captured by the Moon Mineralogy Mapper during the commissioning phase of Chandrayaan-1 as the spacecraft orbited the moon at an altitude of 100 kilometers (62 miles).

The Moon Mineralogy Mapper is the first instrument to provide highly uniform imaging of the lunar surface.

Along with the length and width dimensions across a typical image, the instrument analyzes a third dimension color.

The composite image consists of a subset of Moon Mineralogy Mapper data for the Orientale region.

The image strip on the left is a color composite of data from 28 separate wavelengths of light reflected from the moon.

The blue to red tones reveal changes in rock and mineral composition, and the green color is an indication of the abundance of iron-bearing minerals such as pyroxene.

The image strip on the right is from a single wavelength of light that contains thermal emission, providing a new level of detail on the form and structure of the region’’s surface.

The Moon Mineralogy Mapper provides scientists their first opportunity to examine lunar mineralogy at high spatial and spectral resolution.

The Moon Mineralogy Mapper provides us with compositional information across the moon that we have never had access to before, said Carle Pieters, the instruments principal investigator, from Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island.

Our ability to now identify and map the composition of the surface in geologic context provides a new level of detail needed to explore and understand Earths nearest neighbor, Pieters added. (ANI)

I'm glad 2 c the forum 4 a subject like this.as v all r glad on de

huge success of chandrayan 1 (show ur mid finger and tell shut! 2 those who

tells it was not) its time 2 discuss about the future plan.let me draw ur

attention on some less concentrated matters which may change the future of

the mission.i'm a little busy 'fresh' engineer,though i'll post ma opinions wen

ever i get time.(and atleast its for our india.i should...hi..hi..).please review

THE MISSION FOR INDIA IS TO MAKE AN EXTENSIVE ADVANCED TECHNOLOGY FOR SPACE RESEARCH(NOT ONLY MOON OR MARS).SINCE THE BEST INTELLECTUAL POOL IS HERE IN INDIA,BUT THE LAK OF FUND IS AN UTTER ROTTEN THING IN CHEESE.THIS CAN BE OVERCOME THROUGH several WAYS.2day about this.

1.METULLARGICAL RESEARCH

MOON IS ABUNDANCE WITH THE MINERALS WHICH ARE OF HIGHLY DEMANDED IN EARTH.CURRENTLY INDIA'S MAPPING SYSTEM MAKES THE MOST RESOLUTE DATA IN WORLD ON THIS.WE SHOULD TRY TO ESTABLISH A WELL EFFICIENT SYSTEM ON MOON WHICH CAN ACCESS THE RESOURCES IN THE MOON.WE MAY BE KEPT OUT OF MOUTH FROM NASA,THAT THEY MAY BE ALREADY STARTED TO MAKE THE FIRST EXTRA TERRESTRIAL BUSINESS OF MANKIND.THEY ARE WELL ALERTED AND EQUIPPED.(EVN THOUGH V R NT 2 COMPETE WIT'M)


A large community of scientists and researchers are 2 be their 2 support this mission.and we should develop a transportation system for resources,study materials(solid)..etc cheaper and safe.as an example, can be a magnetically sailing vehicle.eventhough its very slow,as v nt required minerals as like a daily sationr. like milk or gas,its the cheaper transportation system.

as u all may know already in moon,within days of the starting of research,nasa able to find a new mineral called 'hepat' or stuff somtin like tat.that gives us the assurance our own moon assuring us the chance of pioneering and conquering the field of extracting sustainable energy and mineral resources from our satalite.

Nasa is to secretive. they should furnish the pictures India paid for
Just my thoughts....this was a great accomplishment for India, and they should be rightfully proud.. I congratulate them. Realize that no mission is perfect and they do have different failure points. the fact that they were able to take images of the surface for an entire year is astounding plus the pictures were at an altitude of 60 some odd kilometers from the surface
