Hi ..hello... NAMASKAR...
I want to know what is that shloka written on "Moon Impact Probe"
What benifits you got by using,...Europeans...NASA's payloads...
Was it necessary to INDIA???

Well firstly, it is a mission that brings India to the frontline of space exploring countries, with the capacity to launch a payload to lunar orbit. Experiments are highly specialized and often come from institutes who are the best in that field. India for one doesn't probably have all the facilities and cutting edge stuff in place yet, so it is necessary to take payloads from other countries, as science is a collective endeavour. Science isn't limited to one country or other. It is the quest for universal verifiable truth. On the other hand, there are countries who can't afford to send their own rockets to the moon, so India proves itself to be a reliable 'platform' for lunar launches. This is a tremendous commercial opportunity for India, as well as a chance to collaborate in high-tech projects to have technology transfers, where India is paid by technology, engineering knowledge from other organisations, and in turn launches the craft for those countries.
India is not 'using' European/Nasa payloads. Those payloads, are 'using' Chandrayaan satellite, to orbit the moon and take measurements. Chandrayaan spacecraft is a 'vehicle' to power and navigate around the moon and transmit the data from payloads to earth. Europe/NASA is decades ahead in space research. Just because India has done it on its own, or cheaper, doesn't mean it's much ahead, although India is leading in many fields.
Necessary? Of course not!.. but by putting those payloads in orbit, India gets paid in two ways: money, for launching into lunar orbit AND extremely new invaluable data (which pays even more in the long run) and is something to boast about. New discoveries, observations.. etc. that's what space exploration is all about.
hope it answered something..

Dear Swati,
Also, If u look at the moon mission from Strategic Point of view; we (Indians) need an understanding of objects moving in space (i.e. zero gravity) for developing Inter Continental Ballistic Missiles (ICBM). Further the Infrastructure developed for the mission will be helpful in developing a missile shield for the country.
Looking from the Economic point of view the same infrastructure can be used for developing rural markets, e-schools etc...
So according to me we (Indians) have killed "2 birds with one arrow" ;)
So as far i'm concerned I'm not even worried abt the cost of the project. But am extremely happy that the Govt. gave its approval and am VERY VERY proud that the Scientific community delivered it...
